How to Use ChatGPT as Your Virtual Wedding Planner (Without Letting It GOAT You Up)

3 min read

Wedding planners are amazing.

They can also cost thousands of dollars.

Depending on the type of planning help you hire, where you live, and how complicated your wedding is, professional wedding planning can easily add several thousand dollars to your budget.

And listen—if you have the budget for a great planner and you want one, hire one. There are absolutely things a real-life professional can do that ChatGPT cannot.

But if you're trying to plan a beautiful wedding on a budget?

You may already have a surprisingly powerful little wedding planning assistant sitting in your pocket.

ChatGPT.

And no, I don't mean asking it:

"Give me some ideas for my wedding."

We're going to do better than that.

ChatGPT Can Actually Be a Pretty Incredible Wedding Planning Tool

AI has gotten GOOD.

You can use ChatGPT to help you:

  • Build your wedding budget

  • Compare vendors

  • Create timelines and checklists

  • Brainstorm inexpensive alternatives

  • Write emails to vendors

  • Come up with decor ideas

  • Calculate quantities

  • Create seating-chart strategies

  • Find places you're probably overspending

  • Organize the 847 thoughts currently living inside your bridal brain

In fact, AI use in wedding planning is already becoming mainstream. The Knot Worldwide reported that 36% of couples were using AI during wedding planning, including for timelines, etiquette questions, decor inspiration and guest-experience ideas.

But here's the part people miss:

ChatGPT is only as useful as the way you use it.

Tip #1: Don't Let ChatGPT GOAT You Up 😂

This might be the most important advice I can give you.

ChatGPT has a tendency to be...supportive.

Sometimes too supportive.

You say:

"I'm thinking about spending $1,800 on a champagne wall with custom acrylic charms and live butterflies. What do you think?"

And if you haven't given it any other instructions, you might get:

"OMG! ✨ That sounds absolutely STUNNING and so memorable for your guests!"

Girl.

NO.

We are trying to save money here.

You don't need an AI bridesmaid telling you every idea you've ever had is the greatest idea of all time.

You need it to challenge you.

So train it.

Try saying something like:

"My total wedding budget is $15,000. When I give you an idea, don't automatically agree with me. Evaluate whether it's worth the money, tell me what my guests are actually likely to notice, and give me a less expensive alternative when there is one."

NOW we're cooking.

You just turned ChatGPT from your hype girl into your budget-conscious virtual wedding planner.

Tip #2: Give It Context BEFORE You Ask for Advice

If you tell ChatGPT:

"Help me save money on my wedding,"

you're probably going to get generic advice.

DIY your centerpieces.

Choose an off-season date.

Cut the guest list.

Blah blah blah.

Instead, tell ChatGPT about your actual wedding.

Give it your:

  • Total budget

  • Guest count

  • Location

  • Wedding date

  • Venue

  • Overall aesthetic

  • Top three priorities

  • Things you absolutely do NOT want to sacrifice

Then ask your question.

The more ChatGPT understands about your wedding, the more useful its answers can become.

Tip #3: Make It Compare Options Instead of Just Giving You Ideas

This is where AI can become REALLY helpful.

Don't just ask:

"What's a cheap centerpiece idea?"

Instead, tell it:

"I'm planning a 120-person wedding with 15 tables. Compare candles, bud vases, floral centerpieces and faux florals. Estimate the total cost of each option, tell me which elements guests are most likely to notice, and identify where I can get the most expensive-looking result for the least money."

See the difference?

You're not asking AI to throw random Pinterest ideas at you.

You're making it think through the decision with you.

And THAT can save you some serious time.

But This Is Just the Beginning

There are so many ways I use ChatGPT that can make wedding planning faster, easier and—most importantly—less expensive.

And because I'm a no-fluff kind of person, I put together the prompts I'd actually want a bride to have.

I created a completely free guide:
